Murder

-Murder-
Written by Yvette Liao and Ziwen Ye, Murder tells the story of a couple — a female writer and her terminally ill lover — who, at the height of their affection, choose the most extreme way to end their relationship. The man, unable to bear his lover’s pity, meticulously stages a quarrel; the woman, aware of his intentions, cooperates silently, hoping to preserve the perfect image he wishes to leave behind.
“Is this a murder?” the play asks. “Have we killed the days that should have belonged to us together?”
Through layered narrative structures and the interplay between light and shadow, Murder weaves together reality and the characters’ inner worlds, dividing the stage into three dimensions of time and space — debate, reality, and introspection — to explore love, illusion, and the quiet cruelty of memory.

(1)TheWestLight Drama Club — where "stage as life" meets heartfelt performance.
We explore drama through improv workshops, script readings, and stage rehearsals, creating a space where every member grows in both skill and spirit.
What makes us unique?
· Live piano accompaniment that follows the actor’s rhythm
· A warm backstage culture — we laugh, create, and sometimes disagree, but always end with a hug
· Weekly “Playback Theatre” sessions
Behind the scenes, we don’t just rehearse — we live the stories. Members often linger after practice, repeating lines, refining moves, and even writing poems about their love for drama.
Here, the stage isn’t just a place to perform — it’s where life and art truly meet.

The wind was lazy then,
always stalling this murder by three in the afternoon.
Someone bound the sunset with a piano,
accomplices humming the same melody.
The composer, used to bowing his head, looked up—
this world holds more than sorrow for inspiration—
and the waltz began;
The Hidden Man is a stylish and thrilling ride from The West Light' s first show. Set in 1930s Beijing on the eve of war, it follows a young avenger seeking justice. The drama blends action, metaphor, and personal growth of main characters. It's a dramatic stunning and clever tale of loyalty, betrayal, and a nation's hidden soul.
Inspired by the Soviet play The World in My Hands, this story follows a young poet named Grinin who turns his ideals into verse and drama, inspiring his generation before his life ends too soon.
Through shared rehearsals and poetry, his classmates begin to embrace their own dreams—learning to hold the world in their hands.
"On this night, Misha, I swear… I will always cherish this passion for life, this longing for beauty."
In July 2024, TheWestLight Club joined with Feiyang Club to represent HFLS at the Provincial Art Festival, where their original drama "The Youth" earned Second Prize—a testament to how art gives voice to youth and ideals.
Behind The Scene
He gave her lilies,
they discussed how to wrap the lie.
We smuggled tunings,
gilt-edged brittleness clicking in tinfoil boxes,
like poems of Louis XVI folded over and over.
We shared philosophies still unshaped,
until moonlight found us…
Then a thousand crimson petals rushed down from the dome,
crackling, burning as they danced.
This murder
made the witness sign the reconciliation—
we were to smuggle ourselves to a farther dawn,
to see the sea beyond the curtain.
I only remember,
after the rain collapsed,
clouds like spilled gold poured over us,
screams and blossoming tears held in undried scarlet,
suddenly falling—hotter than rain.
“Good night,
you romantic murderers.
May your sentence outlast eternity by one day…”
